ABOUT

Short Bio

I’m a communications professional and storyteller with a background spanning higher education, healthcare, public service, and independent publishing. My work focuses on translating complex ideas into clear, ethical, and engaging narratives — whether for institutional audiences, community stakeholders, or the general public.

I specialize in research-driven writing, editorial storytelling, and content strategy that builds trust, clarifies purpose, and supports meaningful action.

Expanded Background

My professional background sits at the intersection of communications, administration, and creative practice.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Literature and Writing Studies, with a minor in Philosophy, which trained me in close reading, ethical reasoning, and persuasive argumentation. In parallel, I completed formal studies in Office Administration, where my coursework included:

  • Web design fundamentals (HTML, CMS platforms, introductory JavaScript)
  • Graphic design, photography, and videography principles and Adobe Creative Suite basics
  • Advanced Microsoft Office functionality, including macros and data workflows
  • Advanced Google Workspace tools, scripts, and automation
  • Accounting fundamentals, records management, and file systems

This combination allows me to move fluidly between creative work and operational execution — supporting teams not only with content, but with structure, documentation, and systems thinking.

I also hold a degree in English as a Second Language (ESL). This training sharpened my patience, clarity, and instructional approach — skills that translate directly to collaborative environments, staff training, cross-functional communication, and mentoring.

Across roles at UC San Diego Health, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, government agencies, and in long-term freelance practice, I’ve supported faculty, clinicians, engineers, administrators, creatives, and community leaders. I’m comfortable operating in complex institutional environments while keeping audience needs at the center.

How I Work

My approach is deliberately studious.

I begin every project with research. Writing without understanding creates noise, not clarity. I see it as both a strength and a discipline to acknowledge what I don’t yet know — and to approach unfamiliar subjects with humility, curiosity, and rigor.

This perspective allows me to:

  • Cut through jargon
  • Translate specialist knowledge for non-specialist audiences
  • Ask better questions during interviews
  • Surface meaning that experts often overlook because it feels “obvious” to them

I bring empathy and creativity to subjects that may be technical, institutional, or stereotyped — helping audiences see them with fresh attention and relevance.

Ethics & Marketing Philosophy

Ethics are central to my work.

I don’t promote services, products, or initiatives I believe are fundamentally misaligned with human or social good. That principle isn’t idealistic — it’s practical. Ethical alignment creates trust, and trust is the foundation of effective communication.

Rather than pushing messages uphill through coercive tactics, I focus on revealing intrinsic value. When communication highlights real benefits with honesty and clarity, audiences don’t need to be pressured — they choose to engage.

While I have experience with paid digital advertising, my default orientation is inbound marketing. I prioritize creating content that is genuinely useful, informative, or enriching. In this model, marketing becomes a form of service — one that respects audience intelligence and autonomy.

I intentionally avoid manipulative urgency tactics, bloated landing pages, or SEO strategies that overwhelm rather than inform. Sustainable engagement comes from relevance, not force.

Creative Philosophy

Words matter.

They shape perception, influence behavior, and create shared understanding — especially in a crowded, noisy information environment.

Whether I’m writing executive communications, technical web copy, long-form journalism, or creative narratives, I approach language as both a tool and a responsibility. My work is informed by research, guided by empathy, and grounded in respect for the audience.

I believe the most effective communication doesn’t shout. It listens, clarifies, and invites trust.

Across words, images, and sound, my guiding questions remain consistent:

  • What does this audience truly need?
  • What assumptions need to be examined?
  • How can clarity replace complexity without losing nuance?

When handled with care, communication doesn’t just persuade — it builds relationships that last.

Beyond Writing

In addition to writing and editing, I work with photography, video, graphic design, and sound as complementary storytelling forms.

My visual work explores urban spaces, landscapes, and cultural details through analog and digital photography, as well as short documentary projects. My audio work includes music composition and sound design for albums, videos, and podcasts.

While these practices are creative in nature, they inform my communications work by sharpening my attention to rhythm, structure, pacing, and tone — skills that translate directly to effective messaging.

Closing Note

I’m drawn to work that values clarity, integrity, and thoughtful collaboration. Whether supporting an institution, a community initiative, or a creative project, my goal is the same: to help ideas move responsibly and meaningfully from one mind to another.

If that aligns with your needs, I’d be glad to talk.
