I was delighted to work with Todd Gruel in March 2019 when he wrote an article about my band Rise Up for the publication Oly Arts. Todd wrote an insightful and moving story that combined narrative from the band with other research he did. Todd identified and brought forward some of the social justice themes and calls to action present in the music and used those to root his story. The end result was a splendidly written article that framed why the music and subject matter is important, and how it impacted each performer. Todd had the passion to go deep on this story and we are very appreciative of the warmth and humanity he brought to it. We’d be excited to have the chance to work with Todd again.
